Belly Dancer No. 91

I like working on mat board with gesso over the top. I like how I never know what the chalk will do until I swipe it over the surface. It keeps my drawings looser than they would be otherwise. And I like pulling a different color mat board out every day. It’s like putting a quarter in a gum ball machine. You never know what’ll come out. Sometimes you get cherry and sometimes you get licorice. It’s all candy, though. Good stuff.

About Marie Marfia

Once upon a time I went to a belly dancing class and promptly fell in love with my instructor and her students. As a result, I'm on a mission to complete 100 portraits of belly dancers using soft pastels. I am hoping that by the end of this project I'll have gained some mastery of pastels and of myself. Feel free to stop by and share my journey as I learn about pastels, art and the life of a daily painter.

I like how the blue fans up at an angle. It seems to mimic the movement of hips and hands. Nice.
