Steve and I have been nurturing this crazy idea that when we retire we’ll travel the country in a van. My friend Mary has a Class B RV. We thought something like that, maybe not quite so big, would be nice. We went to the RV show out at the Equestrian Center yesterday to see what’s available. The most ridiculous thing? After an hour we were saying stupid stuff like, “$50,000? That’s not so bad,” and “Oooh, matching leather couches!”
The best thing? We stopped at a smoker stand on 103rd Street on the way home for pulled pork sandwiches and then drove out to Ringhaver Park where we watched a great blue heron and some wood ducks. While we were there, we realized we don’t need a big house on wheels to be happy, just someone to share lunch and a sense of the ridiculous.
After we got home and had a chance to detox, we looked online at used vans. Maybe down the road (pun intended) we’ll get a little trailer. For now though, all we really need is a vehicle to transport six people and a dog to Michigan for a family reunion in July. That’s all we need. Really.
And this solar battery charger… and a mini fridge… and a portable potty… maybe a bigger van…
The heron is available on Daily Paintworks.

I’ve wanted to do the same thing! Kind of in the same boat as you, though: “Maybe not now. . .”
Right! I have giant house on wheels taste and a van with a mattress in the back budget. Got to start saving those shekels…
