Sometimes I get so busy watching the trail that I forget to look at the sky. This pastel is taken from a picture of some tall pines out in the Julington Durbin Preserve just as the sun begins to hit the tops of the trees early in the morning.
Here’s my sketch. I’m doing these for every pastel now. Good composition doesn’t often happen by accident, I’m finding. As with most things, a little planning goes a long way.
Sketch of a three pines in the sky using the rule of thirds.
Once upon a time I went to a belly dancing class and promptly fell in love with my instructor and her students. As a result, I'm on a mission to complete 100 portraits of belly dancers using soft pastels. I am hoping that by the end of this project I'll have gained some mastery of pastels and of myself. Feel free to stop by and share my journey as I learn about pastels, art and the life of a daily painter.
I also do this and now I make myself turn around as I walk to see what I’m missing the other way.
