Waiting for everyone to wake up

I have an extra body in the house, one of Nick’s friends, sleeping on the couch. It’s amazing how much noise I can make when I’m trying to be quiet.

And my darling daughter called this morning to wish us all Happy New Year. She is on her way to bed now. It’s already January 2 in South Korea.

Here’s number 83 in the 100 Belly Dancers series. Available on ebay.

I love her hand with the zills in it and the drift of her sleeves in the breeze. For this one, I scribbled color on the paper first and then blocked in my girl. When I got about three quarters of the way through it, I went over the top of the stick pastels with pastel pencil to put in detail and left the rest pretty loose.

About Marie Marfia

Once upon a time I went to a belly dancing class and promptly fell in love with my instructor and her students. As a result, I'm on a mission to complete 100 portraits of belly dancers using soft pastels. I am hoping that by the end of this project I'll have gained some mastery of pastels and of myself. Feel free to stop by and share my journey as I learn about pastels, art and the life of a daily painter.
